Sleep Disorders Commonly Diagnosed
Our sleep study center offers complete diagnostic and treatment services for every sleep/wake disorder including:
Sleep Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea is a serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. Several types of sleep apnea exist, but the most common type is obstructive sleep apnea, which occurs when your throat muscles intermittently relax and block your airway during sleep. Our Orange County sleep apnea studies are most commonly requested, but require specialized treatment for each case. Ask for a consultation today.
Snoring
Snoring occurs when air flows past relaxed tissues, such as your tongue, soft palate and airway, as you breathe. The sagging tissues narrow your airway, causing these tissues to vibrate.
Sleep Walking/Talking
Sleepwalking, also known as somnambulism, involves getting up and walking around while in a state of sleep. More common in children than adults, sleepwalking is usually outgrown by the teen years. Isolated incidents of sleepwalking often don’t signal any serious problems or require treatment. However, recurrent sleepwalking may suggest an underlying sleep disorder.
Periodic Limb Movement Disorder / Restless Legs Syndrome
A neurological disorder characterized by an irresistible urge to move one’s limbs, which disrupts an individual’s ability to stay asleep at night and function normally during the day.
Insomnia
Characterized as difficulty falling or staying asleep, which is often a symptom of a separate issue and can be caused by a number of factors.
Night Terrors
Sleep terrors are episodes of screaming, intense fear and flailing while still asleep. Also known as night terrors, sleep terrors often are paired with sleepwalking. Like sleepwalking, sleep terrors are considered a parasomnia — an undesired occurrence during sleep.
Narcolepsy
Defined as episodes of excessive drowsiness during the day with a tendency to sleep at inappropriate times.
REM Sleep Behavior Disorder
Rapid Eye Movement (REM) is a naturally occurring sleep phase and this disorder relates to abnormal behavior during REM sleep. Behavior is often in response to the content of the individual’s dreams while sleeping.

Orange County Sleep Apnea Treatment Options
The Southern California Sleep Disorders Specialists offer many different procedures to assess and treat a wide variety of sleep disorders. Some of the most common are:
Consultations
A board certified sleep specialist is available to discuss your symptoms and medical background to determine the most effective diagnostic procedures and possible treatment options for you.
Polysomnography(PSG)
A diagnostic sleep study test where you’re kept overnight to assess for obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep disorders, using many technical components such as electroencephalogram, electroculogram, submental electromyogram, airflow, abdominal movement, and oxygen saturation.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Studies
If you have been diagnosed with Sleep Anpea a CPAP test will determine the best settings to treat your sleep apnea.
Split-Night Studies (Split) A Combination of Diagnostic & CPAP Therapy Study
If your doctor is very sure that you have Sleep Apnea, the technician may be able to apply CPAP therapy in the same night as the diagnostic study instead of two separate studies. This combines the Polysomnography and a CPAP study.
Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT)
This is a daytime study where you take several naps throughout the day following an overnight PSG study, most often used to assess for and treat narcolepsy.
Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests (MWT)
Similar to the MSLT tests above, this test involves you being recorded several times during the day in a quiet room to determine your ability to stay awake. This is very important for drivers and pilots with even a possible sleep disorder.
Daytime Desensitization Studies (PAP-Nap)
This procedure is only 2 hours during the daytime. It should help you become acclimated to PAP therapy for sleep apnea.
Home Sleep Test (HST)
If you can’t stay in one of the comfortable rooms at the sleep lab, we also offer in-home diagnostic studies. This is a diagnostic (PSG) study only, and involves less wires than the in-lab study. If you are interested in having your sleep study in your own home, consult your doctor to determine if this is the best option for you. Many physicians require a full in-lab overnight sleep study to give them the most data available to determine the best treatment options for you.
Whether you suspect you have sleep apnea or another sleep disorder, our sleep center is eager to help you with your sleep study and get you on the path to the treatment you need to sleep well.
